On Snow Leopard running a 64 bit OS the Botan configure script will attempt to build a 32 bit binary using a compiler that can support 64 bit, we have to explicitly state that we want to have 64 bit library built. Unfortunately there is no way to build a universal library/binary for Botan as it currently stands. This is an oversight on my part, it works without issues on Lion where it picks up the fact that it is a 64 bit OS correctly and compiles without issues.
