f0efeea29e PBKDF2 updates to conform to SP800-132
The existing code used PKCS5 specifications.
SP800-132 adds the following additional constraints for:
  - the range of the key length.
  - the minimum iteration count (1000 recommended).
  - salt length (at least 128 bits).
These additional constraints may cause errors (in scrypt, and
some PKCS5 related test vectors). To disable the new
constraints use the new ctrl string "pkcs5".
For backwards compatability, the checks are only enabled by
default for fips mode.

2ccb1b4eca EVP fetching: make operation_id part of the method identity
Because the operation identity wasn't integrated with the created
methods, the following code would give unexpected results:

    EVP_MD *md = EVP_MD_fetch(NULL, "MD5", NULL);
    EVP_CIPHER *cipher = EVP_CIPHER_fetch(NULL, "MD5", NULL);

    if (md != NULL)
        printf("MD5 is a digest\n");
    if (cipher != NULL)

The message is that MD5 is both a digest and a cipher.

2e49c05472 EVP_FETCH: deal with names without pre-defined NIDs
We didn't deal very well with names that didn't have pre-defined NIDs,
as the NID zero travelled through the full process and resulted in an
inaccessible method. By consequence, we need to refactor the method
construction callbacks to rely more on algorithm names.

We must, however, still store the legacy NID with the method, for the
sake of other code that depend on it (for example, CMS).

enables the application to seed the CSPRNG.

But NIST SP-800-90A clearly mandates that entropy *shall not* be provided

The provided random data will be mixed into the DRBG state as additional

67c81ec311 Allow specifying the tag after AAD in CCM mode
This change allows to pass the authentication tag after specifying
the AAD in CCM mode. This is already true for the other two supported
AEAD modes (GCM and OCB) and it seems appropriate to match the
behavior.

GCM and OCB also support to set the tag at any point before the call
to `EVP_*Final`, but this won't work for CCM due to a restriction
imposed by section 2.6 of RFC3610: The tag must be set before
actually decrypting data.

This commit also adds a test case for setting the tag after supplying
plaintext length and AAD.

a39eb84006 Replumbing: give the possibility for the provider to create a context
OSSL_provider_init() gets another output parameter, holding a pointer
to a provider side context. It's entirely up to the provider to
define the context and what it's being used for. This pointer is
passed back to other provider functions, typically the provider global
get_params and set_params functions, and also the diverse algorithm
context creators, and of course, the teardown function.

With this, a provider can be instantiated more than once, or be
re-loaded as the case may be, while maintaining instance state.

0109e030db Add a way for the application to get OpenSSL configuration data
OpenSSL_version(OPENSSL_DIR) gives you a nicely formatted string for
display, but if all you really want is the directory itself, you were
forced to parsed the string.

This introduces a new function to get diverse configuration data from
the library, OPENSSL_info(). This works the same way as
OpenSSL_version(), but has its own series of types, currently
including:

OPENSSL_INFO_CONFIG_DIR returns OPENSSLDIR
OPENSSL_INFO_ENGINES_DIR returns ENGINESDIR
OPENSSL_INFO_MODULES_DIR returns MODULESDIR
OPENSSL_INFO_DSO_EXTENSION returns DSO_EXTENSION

OPENSSL_INFO_DIR_FILENAME_SEPARATOR returns directory/filename separator
OPENSSL_INFO_LIST_SEPARATOR returns list separator

For scripting purposes, this also adds the command 'openssl info'.

ac2b52c6ad Separate the lookup test
This fixes the "verifying the alias" case.
Actually, while working on it, I realized that conceptually we were
testing the 2 different behaviours of `EC_GROUP_check_named_curve()` at
the same time, and actually not in the proper way.

I think it's fair to assume that overwriting the curve name for an
existing group with `NID_undef` could lead to the unexpected behaviour
we were observing and working around.
Thus I decided to separate the lookup test in a dedicated simpler test
that does what the documentation of `EC_GROUP_check_named_curve()`
suggests: the lookup functionality is meant to find a name for a group
generated with explicit parameters.

In case an alternative alias is returned by the lookup instead of the
expected nid, to avoid doing comparisons between `EC_GROUP`s with
different `EC_METHOD`s, the workaround is to retrieve the `ECPARAMETERS`
of the "alias group" and create a new explicit parameters group to use
in `EC_GROUP_cmp()`.

7ffbd7ca96 OSSL_PARAM helper functions.
Provide a number of functions to allow parameters to be set and
retrieved in a type safe manner. Functions are provided for many
integral types plus double, BIGNUM, UTF8 strings and OCTET strings.

All of the integer functions will widen the parameter data as
required. This permits a degree of malleability in the parameter
definition. For example a type can be changed from a thirty two bit
integer to a sixty four bit one without changing application code.
Only four and eight byte integral sizes are supported here.

A pair of real functions are available for doubles.

A pair of functions is available for BIGNUMs. These accept any sized
unsigned integer input and convert to/from a BIGNUM.

For each OCTET and UTF8 strings, four functions are defined. This
provide get and set functionality for string and for pointers to
strings. The latter avoiding copies but have other inherent risks.

Finally, some utility macros and functions are defined to allow
OSSL_PARAM definition arrays to be specified in a simple manner.
There are two macro and one function for most types. The exception
being BIGNUM, for which there is one macro and one function.

a7cef52f9b Support raw input data in apps/pkeyutl
Some signature algorithms require special treatment for digesting, such
as SM2. This patch adds the ability of handling raw input data in
apps/pkeyutl other than accepting only pre-hashed input data.

Beside, SM2 requries an ID string when signing or verifying a piece of data,
this patch also adds the ability for apps/pkeyutil to specify that ID
string.

0a79572a29 Property: naming and manual clarifiations
- Add a bit more text about that is expected of the user or
  OSSL_METHOD_STOREs.
- Clarify what a method and what a numeric identity are.
- Change all mentions of 'implementation' and 'result' to 'method'.

To clarify further: OpenSSL has used the term 'method' for structures
that mainly contains function pointers. Those are the methods that
are expected to be stored away in OSSL_METHOD_STOREs. In the end,
however, it's the caller's responsibility to define exactly what they
want to store, as long as its 'methods' are associated with a numeric
identity and properties.

1bdbdaffdc Properties for implementation selection.
Properties are a sequence of comma separated name=value pairs. A name
without a corresponding value is assumed to be a Boolean and have the
true value 'yes'. Values are either strings or numbers. Strings can be
quoted either _"_ or _'_ or unquoted (with restrictions). There are no
escape characters inside strings. Number are either decimal digits or
'0x' followed by hexidecimal digits. Numbers are represented internally
as signed sixty four bit values.

Queries on properties are a sequence comma separated conditional tests.
These take the form of name=value (equality test), name!=value (inequality
test) or name (Boolean test for truth). Queries can be parsed, compared
against a definition or merged pairwise.

4af5836b55 Don't signal SSL_CB_HANDSHAKE_START for TLSv1.3 post-handshake messages
The original 1.1.1 design was to use SSL_CB_HANDSHAKE_START and
SSL_CB_HANDSHAKE_DONE to signal start/end of a post-handshake message
exchange in TLSv1.3. Unfortunately experience has shown that this confuses
some applications who mistake it for a TLSv1.2 renegotiation. This means
that KeyUpdate messages are not handled properly.

This commit removes the use of SSL_CB_HANDSHAKE_START and
SSL_CB_HANDSHAKE_DONE to signal the start/end of a post-handshake
message exchange. Individual post-handshake messages are still signalled in
the normal way.

This is a potentially breaking change if there are any applications already
written that expect to see these TLSv1.3 events. However, without it,
KeyUpdate is not currently usable for many applications.

1842f369e5 ENGINE modules aren't special, so call them MODULES
The only thing that makes an ENGINE module special is its entry
points. Other than that, it's a normal dynamically loadable module,
nothing special about it. This change has us stop pretending anything
else.

We retain using ENGINE as a term for installation, because it's
related to a specific installation directory, and we therefore also
mark ENGINE modules specifically as such with an attribute in the
build.info files.

e85d19c68e crypto/cms: Add support for CAdES Basic Electronic Signatures (CAdES-BES)
A CAdES Basic Electronic Signature (CAdES-BES) contains, among other
specifications, a collection of Signing Certificate reference attributes,
stored in the signedData ether as ESS signing-certificate or as
ESS signing-certificate-v2. These are described in detail in Section 5.7.2
of RFC 5126 - CMS Advanced Electronic Signatures (CAdES).

This patch adds support for adding ESS signing-certificate[-v2] attributes
to CMS signedData. Although it implements only a small part of the RFC, it
is sufficient many cases to enable the `openssl cms` app to create signatures
which comply with legal requirements of some European States (e.g Italy).
