When libssl and libcrypto are compiled on Linux with "-rpath", but
not "--enable-new-dtags", the RPATH takes precedence over
LD_LIBRARY_PATH, and we end up running with the wrong libraries.
This is resolved by using full (or at least relative, rather than
just the filename to be found on LD_LIBRARY_PATH) paths to the
shared objects.

Setting the SipHash hash size and setting its key is done with two
independent functions... and yet, the internals depend on both.
Unfortunately, the function to change the size wasn't adapted for the
possibility that the key was set first, with a different hash size.
This changes the hash setting function to fix the internal values
(which is easy, fortunately) according to the hash size.
evpmac.txt value for digestsize:8 is also corrected.

pkey_test_ctrl() was designed for parsing values, not for using in
test runs. Relying on its returned value when it returned 1 even for
control errors made it particularly useless for mac_test_run().
Here, it gets replaced with a MAC specific control function, that
parses values the same way but is designed for use in a _run() rather
than a _parse() function.
This uncovers a SipHash test with an invalid control that wasn't
caught properly. After all, that stanza is supposed to test that
invalid control values do generate an error. Now we catch that.

Commit 5b4cb385c1 (#7382) introduced a bug which had the effect
that RAND_add()/RAND_seed() failed for buffer sizes less than
32 bytes. The reason was that now the added random data was used
exlusively as entropy source for reseeding. When the random input
was too short or contained not enough entropy, the DRBG failed
without querying the available entropy sources.
This commit makes drbg_add() act smarter: it checks the entropy
requirements explicitely. If the random input fails this check,
it won't be added as entropy input, but only as additional data.
More precisely, the behaviour depends on whether an os entropy
source was configured (which is the default on most os):
- If an os entropy source is avaible then we declare the buffer
content as additional data by setting randomness to zero and
trigger a regular reseeding.
- If no os entropy source is available, a reseeding will fail
inevitably. So drbg_add() uses a trick to mix the buffer contents
into the DRBG state without forcing a reseeding: it generates a
dummy random byte, using the buffer content as additional data.

When building shared libraries on Windows, we had a clash between
'libcrypto.lib' the static routine library and 'libcrypto.lib' the
import library.
We now change it so the static versions of our libraries get '_static'
appended to their names. These will never get installed, but can
still be used for our internal purposes, such as internal tests.
When building non-shared, the renaming mechanism doesn't come into
play. In that case, the static libraries 'libcrypto.lib' and
'libssl.lib' are installed, just as always.

NIST has updated their guidelines in appendix D of SP 800-56B rev2 (draft)
providing a formula for the number of security bits it terms of the length
of the RSA key.
This is an implementation of this formula using fixed point arithmetic.
For integers 1 .. 100,000 it rounds down to the next smaller 8 bit strength
270 times. It never errs to the high side. None of the rounded values occur
near any of the commonly selected lengths.

In pull request #4328 the seeding of the DRBG via RAND_add()/RAND_seed()
was implemented by buffering the data in a random pool where it is
picked up later by the rand_drbg_get_entropy() callback. This buffer
was limited to the size of 4096 bytes.
When a larger input was added via RAND_add() or RAND_seed() to the DRBG,
the reseeding failed, but the error returned by the DRBG was ignored
by the two calling functions, which both don't return an error code.
As a consequence, the data provided by the application was effectively
ignored.
This commit fixes the problem by a more efficient implementation which
does not copy the data in memory and by raising the buffer the size limit
to INT32_MAX (2 gigabytes). This is less than the NIST limit of 2^35 bits
but it was chosen intentionally to avoid platform dependent problems
like integer sizes and/or signed/unsigned conversion.
Additionally, the DRBG is now less permissive on errors: In addition to
pushing a message to the openssl error stack, it enters the error state,
which forces a reinstantiation on next call.
Thanks go to Dr. Falko Strenzke for reporting this issue to the
openssl-security mailing list. After internal discussion the issue
has been categorized as not being security relevant, because the DRBG
reseeds automatically and is fully functional even without additional
randomness provided by the application.

In drbgtest, test_set_defaults changes the default DRBGs. This works fine
when tests are run in the normal order. However if
OPENSSL_TEST_RAND_ORDER is defined then it may fail (dependent on the
ordering). This environment variable is defined for one of the Travis
tests, so this issue was causing intermittent travis test failures.

With the change to have separate object files by intent, VMS name
mangling gets done differently. While we previously had that for
libraries only, we must now turn that on generally for our programs,
because some of them depend in internal libraries where mangled names
are all that there is.
Dynamic modules are still built with non-mangled names, which is good
enough to show that it's possible to build with our public libraries
using our public headers.

PR #3783 introduce coded to reset the server side SNI state in
SSL_do_handshake() to ensure any erroneous config time SNI changes are
cleared. Unfortunately SSL_do_handshake() can be called mid-handshake
multiple times so this is the wrong place to do this and can mean that
any SNI data is cleared later on in the handshake too.
Therefore move the code to a more appropriate place.

We recently turned on the TLSv1.3 downgrade sentinels by default.
Unfortunately we are using a very old version of the BoringSSL test
runner which uses an old draft implementation of TLSv1.3 that also
uses the downgrade sentinels by default. The two implementations do
not play well together and were causing spurious test failures. Until
such time as we update the BoringSSL test runner we disable the failing
tests:
SendFallbackSCSV
In this test the client is OpenSSL and the server is the boring test runner.
The client and server fail to negotiate TLSv1.3 because the test runner is
using an old draft TLSv1.3 version. The server does however add the
TLSv1.3->TLSv1.2 downgrade sentinel in the ServerHello random. Since we
recently turned on checking of the downgrade sentinels on the client side
this causes the connection to fail.
VersionNegotiationExtension-TLS11
In this test the test runner is the client and OpenSSL is the server. The
test modifies the supported_versions extension sent by the client to only
include TLSv1.1 (and some other spurious versions), even though the client
does actually support TLSv1.2. The server successfully selects TLSv1.1, but
adds the TLSv1.3->TLSv1.1 downgrade sentinel. This behaviour was recently
switched on by default. The test runner then checks the downgrade sentinel
and aborts the connection because it knows that it really supports TLSv1.2.

In this test the client is the test runner, and OpenSSL is the server. The
client offers TLSv1.2 in ClientHello.version, but also adds a
supported_versions extension that only offers TLSv1.1. The
supported_versions extension takes precedence and the server (correctly)
selects TLSv1.1. However it also adds the TLSv1.3->TLSv1.1 downgrade
sentinel. On the client side it knows it actually offered TLSv1.2 and so the
downgrade sentinel check fails.

This commit destroys the free list pointers which would otherwise be
present in the returned memory blocks. This in turn helps prevent
information leakage from the secure memory area.

The EFD database does not state that the "ladd-2002-it-3" algorithm
assumes X1 != 0.
Consequently the current implementation, based on it, fails to compute
correctly if the affine x coordinate of the scalar multiplication input
point is 0.
We replace this implementation using the alternative algorithm based on
Eq. (9) and (10) from the same paper, which being derived from the
additive relation of (6) does not incur in this problem, but costs one
extra field multiplication.

and the code to implement it was generated with tooling.
Regression tests add one positive test for each named curve that has
such a point. The `SharedSecret` was generated independently from the

To start with, actually set an SNI callback (copied from bssl_shim); we
weren't actually testing much otherwise (and just happened to have been
passing due to buggy libssl behavior prior to
commit 1c4aa31d79).
Also use proper C++ code for handling C strings -- when a C API
(SSL_get_servername()) returns NULL instead of a string, special-case
that instead of blindly trying to compare NULL against a std::string,
and perform the comparsion using the std::string operators instead of
falling back to pointer comparison.

The problematic case falls back to a NULL conf which returns the result
of getenv(2). If this returns NULL, everything was good. If this returns
a string an attempt to convert it to a number is made using the function
pointers from conf.
This fix uses the strtol(3) function instead, we don't have the
configuration settings and this behaves as the default would.

There is some overlap with existing EVP tests, especially for the NIST

"Golden" here means all the values are independent from OpenSSL's ECC
code. I used sage to calculate them. What comes from OpenSSL is:
1. The OIDs (parsed by tooling)
2. The curve parameters (parsing ecparam output with tooling)
The values inside the PEMs (private keys, public keys) and shared keys
are from sage. The PEMs themselves are the output of asn1parse, with
input taken from sage.

Currently if you encounter application data while waiting for a
close_notify from the peer, and you have called SSL_shutdown() then
you will get a -1 return (fatal error) and SSL_ERROR_SYSCALL from
SSL_get_error(). This isn't accurate (it should be SSL_ERROR_SSL) and
isn't persistent (you can call SSL_shutdown() again and it might then work).
We change this into a proper fatal error that is persistent.

TlsGetValue clears the last error even on success, so that callers may
distinguish it successfully returning NULL or failing. This error-mangling
behavior interferes with the caller's use of GetLastError. In particular
SSL_get_error queries the error queue to determine whether the caller should
look at the OS's errors. To avoid destroying state, save and restore the
Windows error.

Per SEC 1, the curve coefficients must be padded up to size. See C.2's
definition of Curve, C.1's definition of FieldElement, and 2.3.5's definition
of how to encode the field elements in http://www.secg.org/sec1-v2.pdf.
This comes up for P-521, where b needs a leading zero.

Don't apply DNS name constraints to subject CN's that are sufficiently
unlike DNS names. Checked name must have at least two labels, with
all labels non-empty, no trailing '.' and all hyphens must be
internal in each label. In addition to the usual LDH characters,
we also allow "_", since some sites use these for hostnames despite
all the standards.

Because TLS 1.3 sends more non-application data records some clients run
into problems because they don't expect SSL_read() to return and set
SSL_ERROR_WANT_READ after processing it.
This can cause problems for clients that use blocking I/O and use
select() to see if data is available. It can be cleared using
SSL_CTX_clear_mode().

In TLSv1.2 and below we always cache new sessions by default on the server
side in the internal cache (even when we're using session tickets). This is
in order to support resumption from a session id.
In TLSv1.3 there is no session id. It is only possible to resume using the
ticket. Therefore, in the default case, there is no point in caching the
session in the internal store.
There is still a reason to call the external cache new session callback
because applications may be using the callbacks just to know about when
sessions are created (and not necessarily implementing a full cache). If
the application also implements the remove session callback then we are
forced to also store it in the internal cache so that we can create
timeout events. Otherwise the external cache could just fill up
indefinitely.
This mostly addresses the issue described in #5628. That issue also proposes
having an option to not create full stateless tickets when using the
internal cache. That aspect hasn't been addressed yet.

The recent change in behaviour where you do not get a NewSessionTicket
message sent if you established the connection using a PSK caused a mem
leak to be triggered in sslapitest. It was actually a latent bug and we
were just lucky we never hit it before. The problem is due to complexity
with the way PSK sessions were set up in the early_data tests. PSK session
reference counting was handled differently to normal session reference
counting. This meant there were lots of special cases in the code where
we don't free a session if it is a PSK. It makes things easier if we just
handle PSK reference counts in the same way as other session reference
counts, and then we can remove all of the special case code.

The return value from the ticket_key callback was not properly handled in
TLSv1.3, so that a ticket was *always* renewed even if the callback
requested that it should not be.

If using an old style PSK callback and no certificate is configured for
the server, we should prefer ciphersuites based on SHA-256, because that

In certain circumstances in the DTLS code we have to drop a record (e.g. if
it is a stale retransmit). We then have to move on to try and read the next
record. Some applications using blocking sockets (e.g. s_server/s_client
will hang if there isn't actually any data to be read from the socket yet).
Others can tolerate this. Therefore SSL_read()/SSL_write() can sometimes
return SSL_ERROR_WANT_READ/SSL_ERROR_WANT_WRITE even when using blocking
sockets. Applications can use the mode SSL_MODE_AUTO_RETRY, to switch this
behaviour off so that we never return unless we have read the data we
wanted to.
Commit ad96225285 fixed a DTLS problem where we always retried even if
SSL_MODE_AUTO_RETRY was not set. However that fix caused the Boring
ossl_shim to fail in some tests because it was relying on the previous
(buggy) behaviour. The ossl_shim should be set into SSL_MODE_AUTO_RETRY if
it is not operating asynchronously to avoid this problem.

Previous tests only invoked CMS via the command line app. This test uses
the CMS API directly to do and encrypt and decrypt operation. This test

To my surprise, it turns out that on OpenVMS, opening './' (which
is translated to '[]') for writing actually creates a file, '[].'.
On OpenVMS, this is a perfectly valid file with no name or extension,
just the delimiter between the two.
Because of the mess the exception would generate in the test recipe,
it gets refactored again, to clearly separate each test inside it,
and use skips to avoid some of them (that makes it clear that they are
skipped and why, when running the recipe).

The actual functionality of generating signatures through the `EVP_PKEY`
API is completely untested.
Current tests under the `EVP_PKEY` API
(`test/recipes/30-test_evp_data/evppkey.txt`) only cover `Verify` and
`Decrypt`, while encryption and signature generation are tested with
ad-hoc clients (`test/sm2crypttest.c`, `test/sm2signtest.c`) that do not
call the `EVP_PKEY` interface at all but soon-to-be private functions
that bypass it (cf. PR#5895 ).
It is my opinion that an ideal solution for the future would consist on
enhancing the `test/evp_pkey` facility and syntax to allow tests to take
control of the PRNG to inject known nonces and validate the results of
`EVP_PKEY` implementations against deterministic known answer tests, but
it is probably too late to work on this feature in time for next release.
Given that commit b5a85f70d8 highlights some critical bugs in the hook
between the `EVP_PKEY` interface and SM2 signature generation and that
these defects escaped testing and code review, I think that at least for
now it is beneficial to at least add the kind of "bogus" testing
provided by this patch:
this is a "fake" test as it does only verify that the SM2 `EVP_PKEY`
interface is capable of creating a signature without failing, but it
does not say anything about the generated signature being valid, nor
does it test the functional correctness of the cryptosystem.

The spec does not prohib certs form using compressed points. It only
requires that points in a key share are uncompressed. It says nothing
about point compression for certs, so we should not fail if a cert uses a
compressed point.

This fixes only those tests that were failing when network data was
fragmented. Remaining ones might succeed for "wrong reasons". Bunch
of tests have to fail to be considered successful and when data is

felem_neg does not produce an output within the tight bounds suitable
for felem_contract. This affects build configurations which set
enable-ec_nistp_64_gcc_128.
point_double and point_add, in the non-z*_is_zero cases, tolerate and
fix up the wider bounds, so this only affects point_add calls where the
other point is infinity. Thus it only affects the final addition in
arbitrary-point multiplication, giving the wrong y-coordinate. This is a
no-op for ECDH and ECDSA, which only use the x-coordinate of
arbitrary-point operations.
Note: ecp_nistp521.c has the same issue in that the documented
preconditions are violated by the test case. I have not addressed this
in this PR. ecp_nistp521.c does not immediately produce the wrong
answer; felem_contract there appears to be a bit more tolerant than its
documented preconditions. However, I haven't checked the point_add
property above holds. ecp_nistp521.c should either get this same fix, to
be conservative, or have the bounds analysis and comments reworked for
the wider bounds.

test/cipherlist_test.c is an internal consistency check, and therefore
requires that the shared library it runs against matches what it was
built for. test/recipes/test_cipherlist.t is made to refuse running
unless library version and build version match.
This adds a helper program test/versions.c, that simply displays the
library and the build version.

Instead of invoking the fuzz test programs once for every corpora
file, we invoke them once for each directory of corpora files. This
dramatically reduces the number of program invikations, as well as the
time 99-test_fuzz.t takes to complete.
fuzz/test-corpus.c was enhanced to handle directories as well as
regular files.

Although it deviates from the actual prototype of DSO_dsobyaddr(), this
is now ISO C compliant and gcc -Wpedantic accepts the code.
Added DATA segment checking to catch ptrgl virtual addresses. Avoid
memleaks with every AIX/dladdr() call. Removed debug-fprintf()s.
Added test case for DSO_dsobyaddr(), which will eventually call dladdr().
Removed unecessary AIX ifdefs again.
The implementation can only lookup function symbols, no data symbols.
Added PIC-flag to aix*-cc build targets.
As AIX is missing a dladdr() implementation it is currently uncertain our
exit()-handlers can still be called when the application exits. After
dlclose() the whole library might have been unloaded already.

previously. This assumption is false when the tests are executed

The fix in conf_include_test.c seems to be required because some
compilers give an error if you give an empty string for the second
argument to strpbrk(). It doesn't really make sense to send an empty
string for this argument anyway, so make sure it has at least one character
in it.

Conceptually in TLSv1.3 there can be multiple sessions associated with a
single connection. Each NewSessionTicket issued can be considered a
separate session. We can end up issuing multiple NewSessionTickets on a
single connection at the moment (e.g. in a post-handshake auth scenario).
Each of those issued tickets should have the new_session_cb called, it
should go into the session cache separately and it should have a unique
id associated with it (so that they can be found individually in the
cache).

With the current mechanism, old cipher strings that used to work in 1.1.0,
may inadvertently disable all TLSv1.3 ciphersuites causing connections to
fail. This is confusing for users.
In reality TLSv1.3 are quite different to older ciphers. They are much
simpler and there are only a small number of them so, arguably, they don't
need the same level of control that the older ciphers have.
This change splits the configuration of TLSv1.3 ciphers from older ones.
By default the TLSv1.3 ciphers are on, so you cannot inadvertently disable
them through your existing config.

This patch fixes two issues in the ia32 RDRAND assembly code that result in a
(possibly significant) loss of entropy.
The first, less significant, issue is that, by returning success as 0 from
OPENSSL_ia32_rdrand() and OPENSSL_ia32_rdseed(), a subtle bias was introduced.
Specifically, because the assembly routine copied the remaining number of
retries over the result when RDRAND/RDSEED returned 'successful but zero', a
bias towards values 1-8 (primarily 8) was introduced.
The second, more worrying issue was that, due to a mixup in registers, when a
buffer that was not size 0 or 1 mod 8 was passed to OPENSSL_ia32_rdrand_bytes
or OPENSSL_ia32_rdseed_bytes, the last (n mod 8) bytes were all the same value.
This issue impacts only the 64-bit variant of the assembly.
This change fixes both issues by first eliminating the only use of
OPENSSL_ia32_rdrand, replacing it with OPENSSL_ia32_rdrand_bytes, and fixes the
register mixup in OPENSSL_ia32_rdrand_bytes. It also adds a sanity test for
OPENSSL_ia32_rdrand_bytes and OPENSSL_ia32_rdseed_bytes to help catch problems
of this nature in the future.

When early data support was first added, this seemed like a good
idea, as it would allow applications to just add SSL_read_early_data()
calls as needed and have things "Just Work". However, for applications
that do not use TLS 1.3 early data, there is a negative side effect.
Having a nonzero max_early_data in a SSL_CTX (and thus, SSL objects
derived from it) means that when generating a session ticket,
tls_construct_stoc_early_data() will indicate to the client that
the server supports early data. This is true, in that the implementation
of TLS 1.3 (i.e., OpenSSL) does support early data, but does not
necessarily indicate that the server application supports early data,
when the default value is nonzero. In this case a well-intentioned
client would send early data along with its resumption attempt, which
would then be ignored by the server application, a waste of network
bandwidth.
Since, in order to successfully use TLS 1.3 early data, the application
must introduce calls to SSL_read_early_data(), it is not much additional
burden to require that the application also calls
SSL_{CTX_,}set_max_early_data() in order to enable the feature; doing
so closes this scenario where early data packets would be sent on
the wire but ignored.
Update SSL_read_early_data.pod accordingly, and make s_server and
our test programs into applications that are compliant with the new
requirements on applications that use early data.

The internals test programs access header files that aren't guarded by
the public __DECC_INCLUDE_PROLOGUE.H and __DECC_INCLUDE_EPILOGUE.H
files, and therefore have no idea what the naming convention is.
Therefore, we need to specify that explicitely in the internals test
programs, since they aren't built with the same naming convention as
the library they belong with.

Without that, output comes one character per line. It's the same
issue as has been observed before, this happens when using write()
on a record oriented stream (possibly unbuffered too).
This also uncovered a bug in BIO_f_linebuffer, where this would cause
an error:
BIO_write(bio, "1\n", 1);
I.e. there's a \n just after the part of the string that we currently
ask to get written.

The NIST standard presents two alternative ways for seeding the
CTR DRBG, depending on whether a derivation function is used or not.
In Section 10.2.1 of NIST SP800-90Ar1 the following is assessed:
The use of the derivation function is optional if either an
approved RBG or an entropy source provides full entropy output
when entropy input is requested by the DRBG mechanism.
Otherwise, the derivation function shall be used.
Since the OpenSSL DRBG supports being reseeded from low entropy random
sources (using RAND_POOL), the use of a derivation function is mandatory.
For that reason we change the default and replace the opt-in flag
RAND_DRBG_FLAG_CTR_USE_DF with an opt-out flag RAND_DRBG_FLAG_CTR_NO_DF.
This change simplifies the RAND_DRBG_new() calls.

If TLSv1.3 is enabled and combined with other options that extend the
size of the ClientHello, then the clienthello test can sometimes fail
because the ClientHello has grown too large. Part of the purpose of the
test is to check that the padding extension works properly. This requires
the ClientHello size to be kept within certain bounds.
By restricting the number of ciphersuites sent we can reduce the size of
the ClientHello.

Add SSL_verify_client_post_handshake() for servers to initiate PHA
Add SSL_force_post_handshake_auth() for clients that don't have certificates
initially configured, but use a certificate callback.
Update SSL_CTX_set_verify()/SSL_set_verify() mode:
* Add SSL_VERIFY_POST_HANDSHAKE to postpone client authentication until after
the initial handshake.
* Update SSL_VERIFY_CLIENT_ONCE now only sends out one CertRequest regardless
of when the certificate authentication takes place; either initial handshake,
re-negotiation, or post-handshake authentication.
Add 'RequestPostHandshake' and 'RequirePostHandshake' SSL_CONF options that
add the SSL_VERIFY_POST_HANDSHAKE to the 'Request' and 'Require' options
Add support to s_client:
* Enabled automatically when cert is configured
* Can be forced enabled via -force_pha

* Use 'c' to invoke PHA in s_server

DTLS and TLS behave ever-so-slightly differently. So, when DTLS1.3 is
implemented, it's PHA support state machine may need to be different.
Add a TODO and a #error
Update handshake context to deal with PHA.
The handshake context for TLSv1.3 post-handshake auth is up through the
ClientFinish message, plus the CertificateRequest message. Subsequent
Certificate, CertificateVerify, and Finish messages are based on this
handshake context (not the Certificate message per se, but it's included
after the hash). KeyUpdate, NewSessionTicket, and prior Certificate
Request messages are not included in post-handshake authentication.
After the ClientFinished message is processed, save off the digest state
for future post-handshake authentication. When post-handshake auth occurs,
copy over the saved handshake context into the "main" handshake digest.
This effectively discards the any KeyUpdate or NewSessionTicket messages
and any prior post-handshake authentication.
This, of course, assumes that the ID-22 did not mean to include any
previous post-handshake authentication into the new handshake transcript.
This is implied by section 4.4.1 that lists messages only up to the
first ClientFinished.

We now have a split in the signature algorithms codepoint space for
whether the certificate's key is for rsaEncryption or a PSS-specific
key, which should let us get rid of some special-casing that we
previously needed to try to coax rsaEncryption keys into performing PSS.
(This will be done in a subsequent commit.)
Send the new PSS-with-PSS-specific key first in our list, so that
we prefer the new technology to the old one.
We need to update the expected certificate type in one test,
since the "RSA-PSS+SHA256" form now corresponds to a public key
of type rsaEncryption, so we should expect the server certificate
type to be just "RSA". If we want to get a server certificate
type of "RSA-PSS", we need to use a new signature algorithm
that cannot be represented as signature+hash, so add a test for that
as well.
